The Walter Burley Griffin Society thanks all those who have already rsvp'd to the sculpture unveiling, but unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, the unveiling of Marion's Nature has to be postponed.

Marion’s Nature unveiling postponed
|
Originally scheduled for 26 October 2025, the unveiling has had to be postponed due to significant disturbances that occurred immediately following the installation of the Marion Mahony Griffin sculpture Marion’s Nature, by Sandra Pitkin.

Less than 24 hours after placement, the sculpture was subjected to a serious act of vandalism. Damage to the adjoining sculpture of Walter Burley Griffin also occurred, and the offenders successfully removed and stole two bronze plaques, including one from the Walter Burley Griffin bronze bust by Judith Shead. This was an appalling incident.

The Marion Mahony Griffin sculpture now needs to be moved to a workshop for repair.

While we are very disappointed to delay the important moment of unveiling, we are committed to ensuring that the occasion reflects the significance of Marion’s extraordinary legacy.

A new date for the unveiling will be announced in a few weeks, and we sincerely hope you will be able to join us then to celebrate one of the world’s pioneering architects and visionaries.
