11.00am – Marion Mahony Griffin Lecture 2021
This will take place at the Museum of Sydney Theatre, corner Phillip and Bridge Streets, Sydney. Guest speaker Dr Anne Watson, curator of Paradise on Earth. The talk is titled ‘What made Marion’s Hair Stand on End?’ An exploration of Marion Mahony Griffin’s pioneering role as an environmentalist and urban planning advocate in Australia through her art, architecture and writing. 2.00pm – Marion’s Birthday Bash at Castlecrag
The Castlecrag Progress Association plans to host an outdoor afternoon birthday party outside around the Griffin Centre, to celebrate the legacy of this great woman who was the inspiration of so much of the foundations of Castlecrag.
Activities planned include guided local walks, art experiences for young and old, and live music. There will also be a reading from The Magic of America – Marion’s autobiography which naturally includes her years living in and developing her dream community in Castlecrag.
Didier from Ganache is set to make a very special giant birthday cake for the community to share and honour Marion’s contribution to our little patch of suburban paradise in the big, wide city of Sydney.
